What is Mercury Retrograde
The movement of all the planets except the Sun and Moon are observed to change direction at some point; astronomers call this ‘apparent retrograde motion’ while astrologers refer to it as ‘retrograde.’
The term ‘retrograde’ is derived from the Latin word meaning ‘to go backward.’ However, it should be noted that planets never really move backward; they only appear to do so from our vantage point on Earth. During retrograde periods, planets seem to pause and then backtrack in their celestial paths before resuming forward motion. In reality Mercury makes a circle at its present location due to the location of the Sun and Mercury in the sky.
